MaxiVista

MaxiVista

Description

MaxiVista turns your iPad into a second monitor for your Windows PC!

Don’t let your iPad gather dust while you work on your Laptop or Desktop – MaxiVista gives your iPad a completely new purpose as an extra monitor.

MaxiVista increases your desktop real estate by up to 40% allowing you to seamlessly move your program windows from your PC to the iPad screen as if it was one large monitor.

Take advantage of the new desktop space and spread windows over both displays to avoid swapping back and forth between overlapping program windows. Your productivity will be significantly increased.

With an increased desktop space you are able to display a word processing software, mail program, media player and instant messenger all at the same time. Or you can also get simultaneous visual access to a massive collection of Photoshop toolbars.

There is no extra hardware required. Instead of using expensive video cable adapters, MaxiVista uses an existing Wi-Fi network connection to transmit the screen contents to the Windows PC.

We have invented this technology in 2003 and MaxiVista has been continuously optimized over the years to provide, probably, the fastest network based desktop transmission available on the market today. The advanced compression technology and the automatic parameter optimization offer you an almost lag-free display performance.

Watch the video demonstration on our webpage to get an idea about the performance of the display transmission.

MaxiVista works with every standard PC running 32/64 Bit Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 including WDDM drivers.

Features:

• Fully automatic configuration. Install & Go!

• Automatic update of the display orientation by simply turning the iPad.

• MaxiVista is the first to support Windows Vista/7 including its latest WDDM video driver technology.

• MaxiVista also works in existing multi monitor configurations.

• The 32 and 64 Bit virtual video drivers are certified for Windows.

• Automatic network parameter detection.

• The iPad’s IP address can, optionally, be configured manually.

Limitations:

• To increase battery life of the iPad, MaxiVista is not designed for full-screen video playback on the iPad.

• The Aero display mode is temporarily disabled while MaxiVista is activated. Aero is automatically turned back on after MaxiVista is deactivated.

• Hardware graphics acceleration such as DirectX or OpenGL, which may be used by Java or WPF applications, is not supported.

So this was one of the first apps I downloaded for my IPad 2 and initially I was extremely underwhelmed. The framerate was miserable and moving the mouse around was painful. The wifi in the building I'm staying in for my business trip is awful tho so I figured that maybe connecting by USB would be better. So I turned to the Internet and in the process stumbled over MaxiVistas website where they explained how to use their optimization tool. After optimizing, the connection was amazing and it became quite easy to use the mouse cursor while in the iPad screen. I was looking at some reviews between this app and Air Display and especially in the video reviews I could tell that they were using the unoptimized raw image display. Unoptimized the program is completely useless, so if you judged it before clicking on the optimize button you should really go back and give it another shot.

Installation and activation was super easy on a windows vista 64 bit laptop. Install the app, download the program off their website for your computer and the program links up once you open the app. I would have given the app 4 stars because they really should tell people to run the optimizer immediately; either through explicit instructions or preferably a wizard that pops up during installation, but i feel kind of obligated to counter all of the low ratings given how incredibly useful and simple to use the app is.

Multitouch support would be nice and I read in some forums that they will be adding it at some point. Should they ever do so, it would definitely be a 5 star must have app.
